Robin was the first company to receive HomeKit certification for a smart doorbell and launched the ProLine back in February. Now the company is back with a smaller version, the ProLine Compact and it offers HomeKit support as well as a lower price with HomeKit Secure Video coming next month. Robin’s Proline Doorbell was exciting as it ushered in the era of HomeKit doorbells. However, it came with a price of $660, a large design, and it wasn’t as straightforward to install as many competitors’ smart doorbells....

Note: You can also use WinToUSB to create a bootable version of Windows 7, Windows 10 Technical Preview, and Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2. For best results I recommend using Windows 8 since it’s more friendly to being portable than Windows 7. Also note that this is quite different than installing Windows from a flash drive. When Zolt announced the Laptop Charger Plus ($100) at CES this year, I was skeptical that the accessory — a practical, logical power solution — would actually make it to market. Zolt promised that it would work with any laptop, including Macs with MagSafe connectors, and at that point, zero third-party MagSafe accessories were available to purchase. Community and Rick and Morty creator Dan Harmon says the former will always be his crowning achievement. While the popular live-action show about an eclectic group of adults attending community college ended in 2015, Rick and Morty’s highly anticipated fourth season premiered the day after the Community cast reunion. Although the two popular shows are about as different as peanut butter and ketchup plot and character-wise, their stories are intertwined. Harmon began working on the idea for Rick and Morty with co-creator Justin Roiland when the writer was fired as showrunner for Community’s fourth season....

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker posts the second-biggest Christmas Day box office of all-time. Following the film’s opening weekend earlier this month, much was made about how it had the lowest debut in the sequel trilogy, bringing in $176 million domestically. That figure was a far cry from The Force Awakens’ then record-breaking start of $247.9 million and The Last Jedi’s $220 million. Even though The Rise of Skywalker easily won the weekend, it was still a pretty disappointing development considering it was the grand finale of the Skywalker saga....

Apple’s publication of a $199/$299 design book raised quite a few eyebrows, some questioning the price, others considering it self-indulgent (especially given all the promo activity), yet others wondering whether this might be Jony Ive’s swansong. I have tried several different Internet streaming set top boxes. From the Apple TV, the Sony SMP-N200, the Xbox 360 and others. The one I use the most is my Roku 2 XS. It includes a plethora of channels in the store and several hidden channels you can add. But, sometimes you want to access your own local media. From the Roku main menu, go into the Channel Store. At CES today, Logitech subsidiary Ultimate Ears (UE) announced its Megaboom Bluetooth speaker. Yes, it is a bigger, louder version of the popular UE Booms. You can add Roseanne to the growing pile of 1980s and/90s TV shows that are making a comeback. For nine seasons, the popular sitcom detailed the none-too-glamorous daily travails of the Conners, a working-class family scraping by in a small town in Illinois. Infused with star Roseanne Barr’s particular brand of humor, which she developed during a successful stand-up career, Roseanne was notable for its believable depiction of lower-class family life in middle-America; a subject that had seldom been tackled on network TV (and hasn’t been tackled that much since)....

I keep a box with around 20 iPad styluses next to my desk, so every time a new stylus arrives, I can easily compare it against its predecessors and rivals. There hasn’t been much functional innovation in the category for a couple of years, but stylus form factors, batteries, and buttons have changed, generally getting simpler and smaller after each generation. Even so, Adonit’s new Jot Dash ($50) surprised me. It comes less than 6 months after the release of Jot Script 2 (reviewed here), but looks and feels a lot different from its predecessor....
