Police and other law enforcement agencies requesting Ring video surveillance footage to help solve crimes will now need to make those requests in public. Previously, they had the ability to email Ring users to request copies of video that might show crimes in progress, or otherwise help to bring criminals to justice … Engadget reports that such requests will now have to be publicly made through the Neighbors app. Footage from doorbell and other security videos can often play an important role in identifying criminals, and providing evidence that helps to convict them....

When the iPod was surging, full-sized headphones were flailing. For decades, big “cans” were the only proper way to quietly listen to the massive audio players stored in home A/V cabinets. But by 2006, portable audio devices were king, and their pocketable little white earbuds were everywhere. Then Beats by Dre came along and convinced people that big headphones were worth buying again, even for portable media players. Beats’ signature Studio headphones aren’t as easy to carry around as little earbuds, but as their growing popularity demonstrates, people haven’t seemed to mind....

Between confusing implementations and unappealing prices, the first wave of iOS game controllers had a very rough launch, nearly killing a new accessory category that had the potential to be huge for Apple. Some of the earliest iOS game controllers only fit smaller iPhones and iPod touches, others had limited buttons, and most were originally priced at $70 or more. With the exception of Mad Catz’ more affordable, device-agnostic C.T.R.L.i series of Bluetooth controllers, iOS gamepads quickly racked up mediocre reviews and wound up in discount bins....

As I mentioned in my review of a couple of wood cases, I’m not normally a case kind of guy. I’ve never quite seen the point of paying a premium for something beautifully designed and then hiding it away inside a case. However, a cycling holiday from the Netherlands to Denmark in which my iPhone would be used for both photos and video suggested that at least a temporary change of policy might be in order....

When Apple introduced its all-new Mac Pro earlier this year, Marketing SVP Phil Schiller made a point of noting that machine would be capable of driving three 4K displays simultaneously. Since then, there has been much speculation over whether or not Apple will eventually introduce its own 4K displays as an update to its Thunderbolt Display. However, with the Mac Pro expected this month, it looks like displays from third-parties will be the only option at launch....

USB chargers aren’t sexy, but they’re critically important to iOS users — so vital that every iPhone and iPad arrives with a basic one-port charger in the box. Without USB recharging assistance, these devices would literally be dead after one day of active use. And the more Apple devices you (or your family) use every day, the more valuable a multi-device charging hub becomes. When I travel with my wife and kids, I can’t leave the house without a charging solution for everyone’s iPads and iPhones....

We were eager to get our hands on Logitech’s iPhone transforming Case+ system immediately following its announcement. The idea is that this system is so versatile that it’s up to nearly any task you could ask of an iPhone case. It allows you to switch between rugged protection, wallet functionality, a windshield/dashboard mount, and a battery pack without having to remove anything. Without the Case+, you would need to buy at least five different iPhone accessories to perform all of the same core functions that the Case+ offers: rugged protection, multi-angle stand, ID/credit card carrier, car dashboard/windshield mount, extended battery....

Boyega, who plays failed First Order solider-turned Resistance hero Finn in the latest three Star Wars films, is no stranger to horsing around with the fanbase....

Apple today announced its new 2017 iPhone lineup, at Apple Park. The company debuted three new flagship iPhones as well as adjusted pricing for the entire product range. The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are successors to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — featuring glass backs, wireless charging and better cameras — whilst the iPhone X grabs headlines with a new ‘edge-to-edge’ 5.8-inch OLED screen and facial recognition unlock....

It was originally rumored that Apple was planning to introduce a new “Theater Mode” with iOS 10.3, but the company today released the first beta of that operating system with Theater Mode nowhere to be found. According to a change log document on Apple’s developer website, however, Theatre Mode may be coming in a future update to watchOS. While Apple has yet to release watchOS 3.2 to developers, the company did today publish the release notes for the update....

If you read our review of the ATH-M50x closed-back headphones, I made it pretty clear that I was a fan of what Audio-Technica was offering. The ATH-M50x’s are well-known for giving Beats By Dre headphones a run for their money, and at a much more affordable price. I also had the opportunity to go hands-on with one of Audio-Technica’s newest offerings, the ATH-MSR7NC. These noise-cancelling cans differ in many ways from the company’s mainstream offering, and at more than double the price of the M50x’s, venture into more premium territory....

To many, Ring is more likely to be known as a video doorbell company. Ring offers a number of solutions to add a camera to the front door, including video doorbells where the user can view who’s at the door, monitoring packages, and so on. More recently, the company has expanded its product line to include devices to be used inside the home. Again, these are devices that are also equipped with cameras and can monitor what everyone at home is doing....

Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 featured a much different, less likable Laurie Strode, and a subplot originally made her even easier to dislike. While both films proved divisive among the established Halloween fanbase, Zombie’s first Halloween film wasn’t really too bad, at least until it started copying scenes from John Carpenter’s original. Unfortunately, Zombie’s Halloween 2 chose to reverse course too far in the opposite direction, making a film truly unlike anything else in the venerable franchise....
