[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Riverdale ahead.]
-
Riverdale episode 5, ‘Heart of Darkness’ ended on quite a big cliffhanger, as Betty (Lili Reinhart) came to terms with the possibility that her father might be responsible for the murder of Jason Blossom. While that’s still a long way from being proven, the episode did give us more insight into Betty’s family history with the Blossoms, including an old feud between both of their great-grandfathers that resulted in murder.
As Riverdale progresses, the subplots also develop, with Archie choosing music over being captain of the Football team, and Hermione Lodge and Fred Andrews growing progressively closer. There’s also the budding friendship between Cheryl and Veronica, not to mention the questions over the exact nature of the relationship Cheryl had with her now deceased twin, Jason. As ever, the mystery surrounding his murder is at the center of next week’s episode, ‘Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!,’ a new trailer for which has just dropped online and can be viewed, above. Episode stills have also arrived, and can be seen in the gallery below.
The full synopsis for episode 6 reads as follows:
[vn_gallery name=“Riverdale – Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill! Images” id=“909988”]
“With Riverdale High’s annual variety show around the corner, Valerie’s (guest star Hayley Law) efforts to help Archie (KJ Apa) prepare for his big performance lead to some major fallout between her and Josie (Ashleigh Murray). Meanwhile, Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) investigation into Jason’s death brings them to a home for troubled youth and face-to-face with Polly (guest star Tiera Skovbye). Just as her relationship with her mother was on the upswing, an unexpected betrayal sends Veronica (Camila Mendes) spiraling, while Josie deals with her own pressures at home after her overbearing father returns for her performance at the variety show. Finally, Hermoine’s (Marisol Nichols) first day at Andrew’s Construction finds her and Fred (Luke Perry) growing closer.”
The stills above show Archie on stage for the talent show, but the trailer hints that perhaps things don’t go to plan for him. Hopefully Valerie will step in and save the day. It seems as though Archie might like her, but he definitely still holds a candle for Veronica, too. Meanwhile, episode 5 hinted at some kind of possible spark between Jughead and Betty, and it seems as though the pair remain close in episode 6, too, especially since they go to visit Polly together.
Of course, the biggest question comes in the trailer and it’s the one we all want the answer to; did Hal Cooper kill Jason? Certainly, given the history he shared with Betty, he would have motive. That said, half of Riverdale seems to have a reason, too, so maybe Hal Cooper’s grudge against the Blossom family is all a red herring. It’s still not known why Jason was leaving town the morning he was abducted, or why he was held so long before being killed. Those two pieces of information will undoubtedly point us in the direction of the killer, so likely we won’t know the answers just yet.
Still, by the end of episode 6, Riverdale will be almost halfway through its first season, and wannabe detectives Jughead and Betty might be on their way to solving their first murder mystery, if Polly can give any answers, that is. Oh, and FYI, if you didn’t know, the title of the epsiode, ‘Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!’ is a nod to the title of a 1965 Russ Meyer film, in which three go-go dancers embark on a kidnapping and murder spree across the California desert. Just how deadly are Josie and the Pussycats meant to be?
Riverdale continues with ‘Chapter Six: Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!’ on Thursday, March 2nd.
