Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck from Joker and Robert Pattinson’s soon-to-debut Bruce Wayne in The Batman meet in a brand new fan-made poster. Todd Phillips’ DC film from last year was both a box office and critical success albeit initial skepticism. The standalone movie gave the Clown Prince of Crime a definitive big screen origin story. While there’s no word yet on whether or not fans will see him again, there are some who are holding out hope that somehow, he’ll encounter his arch-nemesis, the Caped Crusader.
Joker’s events take place in a reality separate from the DCEU. And with rumors that Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman standalone will follow suit, there are people who are wondering if there’s a chance that Fleck and Pattinson’s Bruce will find themselves entangled with each other. Warner Bros. remains mum about the matter as they intentionally keep plot specifics for the much-anticipated standalone film under wraps, but it doesn’t stop some fans from visualizing what a Fleck/Wayne face-off could look like as evidenced by a new fan-made artwork.
Alex Kovalenko took to his Instagram account to visualize an encounter between the new versions of Batman and Joker, sharing an illustration of the two together. The image suggests that this meet-up will take place in Reeves’ The Batman, while the background of the illustration is clearly from the now iconic steps seen in Phillips’ Joker. Check out his creation below:
Joker’s look is obviously based on the final appearance of Phoenix’s Fleck, but what’s more interesting is Batman’s appearance on the image. The Caped Crusader’s appearance is inspired by the latest images from the set of The Batman where fans were finally given their first look at Pattinson’s full costume. Prior to the images making the rounds online, Reeves already debuted the suit in a Joker-esque screen test reveal. However, since the official clip only revealed Pattinson’s face and his upper chest, the public didn’t get a look at the overall armor until the set images. It’s worth noting, however, that the said photos didn’t feature Pattinson, but his stunt double just like in previously rolled out set images.
Whether or not a version of this fan-made art comes to fruition is still a big mystery. As previously said, there’s no official word yet about how The Batman will factor into the DCEU, if at all. Aside from that, there’s also the issue of setting. Joker is set in the ’80s, just around the time Thomas and Martha Wayne were brutally murdered. The film even featured a young Bruce Wayne when Fleck is essentially a grown-up man already. So unless Pattinson’s version of the character from his solo flick is the same one from that period piece, seeing them together might be quite difficult to pull through.
