Robert Pattinson’s Batman suit has finally been officially revealed in a new test video by director Matt Reeves. Production on The Batman started a few weeks ago in London, so fans have been hoping to finally get a reveal of what the newest iteration of the caped crusader would look like.
While the cast for The Batman has been high caliber all around, the actual look and feel of the movie has still been a big mystery with teases ranging from Reeves posting images from Adam West’s Batman ‘66 to Robert Pattinson teasing a more brutal, less heroic take on the character.
Thanks to the newest tweet from Reeves, we now have a much better idea. The suit leans into the grounded, armored take on the suit, somewhat similar to the Arkham games, but with a cowl that has stitching reminiscent of the Batman: Earth One cowl. Check out the video below.
Fans will be excited to also hear a sample of some music from composer Michael Giacchino in the video. It’s not clear if this is the main theme, or if it will be featured in the film at all, but it is written by Giacchino, so it should at the very least give a strong taste of what’s to come from The Batman’s score.
This isn’t just the first official reveal of for the batsuit, but the first official reveal of any of the movie’s characters. Alongside Pattinson, the movie will also feature Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton (The Riddler), Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin), John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle (Catwoman). While they won’t all have flashy costumes, at least Catwoman (and maybe Riddler and Penguin) could still be due their own iconic costume reveals.
Thanks to this first look, the noir detective story teased by Reeves and others is a lot more apparent. With more outdoor shooting scheduled soon, Reeves likely wanted to get out ahead of any blurry set photos spoiling the Batman costume before he could present it in the cinematic lighting and tone (and music) he wanted it to be appreciated in. This reveal certainly gives fans something to look forward to until the movie’s release date on June 25, 2021.
