The Avengers: Endgame full script reveals that Rocket (Bradley Cooper) jokingly contemplated killing Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Since the Guardians of the Galaxy finally joined the bigger MCU in Avengers: Infinity War, fans have fallen in love with the dynamic between the God of Thunder and snappy Raccoon. Alongside Teen Groot, they spent most of the 2018 film together as they traveled to Nidavellir to get Stormbreaker - the “Thanos-killing-kind” of weapon.
After the heroes lost to Thanos (Josh Brolin) at the end of Infinity War, and with no other hope to undo the Mad Titan’s deadly snap, Thor fell into the darkness ends of depression. He became a recluse - gaining weight by drowning his sorrow in alcohol and playing video games with Korg and Miek. While he was successfully recruited by Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Rocket to join the Time Heist, he was out of it for the most part, even during his return to Asgard during the events of Thor: The Dark World.
In Endgame’s theatrical cut, Rocket had to help Thor, who was so shaken by grief and self doubt, successfully retrieve the Reality Stone from the unsuspecting Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Apparently, at one point in the sequence, Rocket thought about murdering Thor given how difficult he was making the mission. This wasn’t included in the movie’s final version, but it’s on the script as pointed out by Reddit user with the handle appleappleappleman. Check it out below:
Considering the nature of Thor and Rocket’s relationship, chances are that the latter was only joking, and the expression was more of an exaggeration considering how difficult it was to deal with the former. It’s not entirely out of Rocket’s traits to utter scathing words like this given his frankness. While it would’ve definitely evoked laughter from viewers of Endgame, it’s probably for the best that the Russos decided to axe it from the movie’s theatrical cut. It could’ve been interpreted in a different way that might’ve caused backlash. The depiction of Thor in the movie was already divisive as it was, and the supposed funny comments made about him and his weight were taken offensive by some. Hearing Rocket being this insensitive to his struggles despite only joking would’ve risked more uproar.
While the end of Avengers: Endgame teased more adventures with Thor and Rocket as the God of Thunder joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, it appears that they’ll be separated eventually. Thor is up for his own adventure in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, while Rocket will be with his original team for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
