Rosario Dawson has given an “amazing” response to an online campaign to get her to play the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano in a future Star Wars movie. Dawson, of course, has built quite a reputation for herself in the sci-fi and comic book movie culture in the past 15 years with roles in such hit films as Men in Black II, Sin City and its sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For; and most recently, on TV and film with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The LEGO Batman Movie. One place she hasn’t been though, is that galaxy far, far away.

Following up on Twitter buzz she generated in February when she said she’d like to play Ahsoka Tano, Dawson addressed her desire to play the character again Friday on ABC’s Good Morning America. Speaking with the show’s anchors, Dawson says:

GMA co-host Michael Strahan pointed out to Dawson that Star Wars follows her on Twitter. Responding by first putting her hands to together to pray, then crossing her fingers, Dawson enthusiastically said, “I know! I think it’s a good sign! Internet help me out!”

“There’s a whole campaign that’s going on online to try to get me in Star Wars to play Ahsoka Tano, which would be amazing!”

Hmmm… @starwars for @rosariodawson? YES! She talks about wanting to be in a future film.Cc: @dave_filoni @pablohidalgo #AhsokaLives pic.twitter.com/TI0tjVtXPE— Good Morning America (@GMA) April 21, 2017

Part of the reason Dawson has been such a fan favorite to play Ahsoka is her striking resemblance to the character. After Dawson’s tweet about wanting to play the live-action version of the animated character (voiced by Ashley Eckstein) – which was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – accomplished graphic artist BossLogic posted some amazing fan art of Dawson as Ahsoka in full makeup and costume.

When somebody as charismatic and capable as Dawson expresses interest in joining the Star Wars universe, fans can only hope that Disney is listening. Hopefully, the fact that she talked about her desire to play Ahsoka on Disney-owned ABC’s GMA is no coincidence. Besides, the idea isn’t completely outlandish, given that Disney and Lucasfilm successfully launched what promises to be a long line of spinoff movies with Rogue One. Another thing Star Wars fans and Dawson have to be encouraged about is Disney’s willingness to adapt animated Star Wars characters into live-action form, like they did with The Clone Wars’ Saw Gerrera for Rogue One.

Dawson isn’t the only actress responding to a fan’s idea of playing an iconic character. Earlier this month Bryce Dallas Howard got the Internet buzzing when she appeared to embrace the idea of playing Poison Ivy in director David Ayer’s upcoming live-action supervillain movie Gotham City Sirens. So when fans consider reaching out on Twitter to their favorite actor or actress about the idea of playing a dream role, remember: Somebody may be indeed paying close attention on the other side.
